Chuck Fry LOVES his bike! From his first 120 mile ride in 8th grade between San Diego and Covina, to more elaborate trips in the US and Europe. Last year he went to the Italian Alps (the Dolomites) to repeat some of the famed climbs of the Giro de Italia bike race. During this trip, he rode 70+ miles each day, 500 miles total, ascending over 50,000 feet!! He said the highlight of the trip “Has to be the Stelvio, a classic Giro climb. It’s 12 miles of scenic mountain roads, with an 8% grade, and 48 switchback turns.”
Chuck uses massage regularly to recover and remove toxins after his workouts. Sometimes his neck, back, hips and knees get sore. “Massage helps keep me fit to allow the pleasure of injury-free riding.”
He may ride hard, but Chuck listens carefully to his body’s signals. Months before his trip, he felt minor pressure in his chest when he was pedaling hard, so he went to his physician to check it out. It turned out he had a blockage in an artery of his heart, and required immediate angioplasty to install a stent to unblock it. But don’t worry, this hasn’t slowed him down at all. He still rides aggressively, takes his doctor’s advice, and encourages everyone to get regular checkups and listen to their body, too. He’s an inspiration to cyclists everywhere!
Ellen, a regular at Dynamic Touch, is an inspiration to us all. This is a picture of her showing off her hard-won wooden bowl trophy for the 2009 Waikiki Rough Water Swim. After 20-plus years of trying, she finally won her age group in this 2.4 mile ocean swim event. Not only that, but this season Ellen also earned the Bronze Medal in the Senior Olympics for the 100 meter Freestyle (a VERY competitive event!). She answers to the title “Professor”, since she has a PhD in Chinese History, and teaches Social Sciences at PCC. When I told her I think she is a star, she just smiled and said “I am not a star — but I do show up and go for it! I never think that winning is everything. Trying your best is everything. I love doing what I do.” Ellen gets sports massages regularly, says that massage helps her stay loose, and works out the soreness and kinks, and “it just feels good”!
If you know anyone going through Cancer treatment, please let them know that Massage can be good for them, if done by a trained professional. Massage for Cancer (also called Oncology Massage) is very gentle. No aggressive, firm techniques are used; only light, gentle touch to work out tension and ease pain. Studies have shown that massage can reduce the side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation, such as nausea, constipation, fatigue, insomnia, and muscle atrophy. And when the mind is stressed, the body doesn’t heal well, so the relaxation achieved during an oncology massage session can be extremely healing.
The therapists at Dynamic Touch are capable of working with cancer patients, even if they have implanted devices or radiation burns. We know what areas to avoid, and how to make the massage comfortable and relaxing. We are happy to discuss each individual’s unique situation and answer all questions prior to coming in. Two locations in Orange County- Costa Mesa and Mission Viejo.
John LOVES to play basketball! Unfortunately, 8 months ago he jumped up for a rebound and came down hard on his left hip. Ever since then he has had hip pain, which inhibits his basketball game, and even prevents him from walking comfortably. His MD said the X-rays look good, but would do exploratory surgery if he wanted… NO WAY! He came to our Costa Mesa Clinic for a Sports/Therapeutic Massage, where his therapist worked on the muscles of the trunk and the legs. Whaddaya know… the hip pain began to subside after the first session. His therapist also gave him some stretches that he can do on his own, as well as a little self-massage, and he’s well on his way to recovery. “Because of the hip pain it was hard to keep up with my wife when we went walking, and all of a sudden, I’m able to go faster than her again! And the guys on the court noticed I got back some of my old moves.”

Evonne came to Dynamic Touch near the end of her marathon training program. Her race date was close, only a few weeks away, and she was having pain near the end of every long run. Originally she had hoped that this race would be the one where she would qualify for Boston, but by that time she was worried that she might not be even able to finish this race, let alone qualify. (The holy grail: qualifying for the Boston Marathon requires a marathon finishing time of right around 4 hours- that’s fast!).
After a few visits to Dynamic Touch for Sports/Therapeutic massage, here’s how Evonne’s race went:
“I qualified for Boston and got 4th place in my age group! I didn’t have any issues with my legs other than typical fatigue, and my legs were right back to normal as soon as I crossed the finish line. Thank you so much, I really feel like the Sports Massages have helped me a lot!”

I have been exploring nutrition and health for years. While I am fully aware that I am a massage therapist, and not a nutritionist, I find myself greatly inspired to learn more.
If you’re worried about getting cancer, or working to manage high blood pressure, or trying to avoid diabetes, please read this 34-page summary.
Ireceived for my birthday last year a book called The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. It is written by a scientist who, in the course of trying to prove that the standard American diet is healthy, proved that it is not. This book demystifies the USRDA recommendations, and debunks many nutritional myths. Few have the time to read a 350-page book, so I decided to summarize it, so more people can receive the message.
If you don’t have time to read the whole summary, read only the first two or three pages . You can get the message in a nutshell this way. However, the compelling aspect of the book is the number of peer-reviewed studies referenced that support the author’s thesis that nearly all of the diseases that plague our society can not only be prevented, but REVERSED by choosing more fruits and veggies over animal foods and processed foods.
